Group formed to foster social innovation
The Innovation Network for Communities (INC) is a new national non-profit that seeks to develop and spread scalable innovations that transform the performance of community wealth building in such areas as education, energy, land use, transportation and workforce development. The start-up of INC is being supported with funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
INC aims to be a network that is cross-sectoral and brings together people and organizations from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. INC’s website includes a number of articles as well as sections on social innovation, ways to develop scale in community wealth building, a description of a number of efforts nationally to build social innovation hubs, a discussion of the importance of infrastructure in community wealth building, and an overview of the group’s publications, many of which can be downloaded for free online (registration for some downloads required).
The group held a founding meeting in October 2007. Presentations from the proceedings are available for free download on line. Among the topics the group has focused on are youth entrepreneurship, social enterprise, workforce development, and wealth building in immigrant groups..
