PBS Series Features Social Enterprises

Supported by the Skoll Foundation, NOW on PBS is devoting an entire beat to covering social entrepreneurs. NOW plans to broadcast features on more than a dozen social entrepreneurs.  The program website also will profile dozens more innovative projects and provides resources for starting one’s own social venture. The website also includes a “Better World” blog that aims to cover the latest happenings in the field of social entrepreneurship.

Social enterprises profiled to date, include CFW Shops, which promotes health care in Kenya and three U.S.-based social enterprises: Appalachian Sustainable Development; the Primavera Foundation of Tuscon, Arizona; and Bonnie Car Loans & Counseling based in New Hampshire.

The program will also feature a contest to locate social enterprise. If you know of a social enterprise that:
1. Has identified a solution to a pressing social problem.
2. Has developed an innovative project that is in the initial stages of implementation.
3. Will be employing business plan strategies to ensure program financial sustainability; e.g, an earned income stream, investors, private donors, etc.
4. Has developed a program model that is replicable, scaleable and has potential to lead to widespread pattern change.

then you might want to apply.  Deadline for nominations is July 31, 2007.  The contest winner will be featured on the program and will be announced in September.
