Formed in 1980 by leading researchers in the energy efficiency field, the American
Council for an Energy Efficient Economy has grown to have programs addressing
many major sectors of the U.S. economy, including national and state energy
policy, buildings and equipment, utilities, industry and agriculture, and transportation.
Over its long history, the organization has helped spearhead state and federal

Founded in 2004, the Apollo Alliance is a coalition of business, labor, environmental,
and community leaders working to catalyze a clean energy revolution in America
to reduce the country's dependence on oil imports, cut carbon emissions,
and expand opportunities for American businesses and workers. Among its efforts,
Apollo has proposed a $300-billion, 10-year program of federal tax credits and
investments, which the group believes can create 3.3 million new, high-wage
jobs in manufacturing, construction, transportation, high tech, and the public
sector, while reducing dependence on foreign oil and cleaning the environment.

Launched in 2006, the Blue Green Alliance is led by the United Steelworkers
and Sierra Club along with other "blue" (blue collar/labor) and "green"
(environmental) partners. The group aims to heighten public awareness about
the job-creating potential of solutions to global warming; use existing economic
development tools to expand investment in clean energy and green chemistry;
accelerate green building, energy efficient retrofits, and related spin-off
industries; create more investments in green jobs, including those related to
fuel-efficient vehicles; and reform trade agreements so they include binding
labor rights and environmental standards.

A nonprofit organization serving the Great Lakes Region, the Delta Institute

Green For All is a national group that aims to build an inclusive green economy
in a way that alleviates poverty and pollution at the same time. Launched at
the Clinton Global Initiative in 2007, Green For All grew out of the work of
Van Jones, who helped create a “Green Job Corps” in Oakland, California,
as part of a program at the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights.

Since 1974, the Institute for Local Self Reliance's “Waste to Wealth”
program has helped to convert wastes from environmental and economic liabilities
into valuable resources that contribute to community development. Areas of focus
include supporting the development of sustainable biomaterials to replace fossil-fuel-based
plastics, developing green industrial parks, salvaging building materials through
deconstruction, and promoting zero waste planning and recycling-based economic
development (in place of waste incineration projects).

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory began in 1977 as the Solar Energy Research
Institute. It was designated a national laboratory of the U.S. Department of
Energy in September 1991 and its name changed to the National Renewable Energy
Laboratory at that time. Today, it serves as the principal research laboratory
for the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable
Energy. From 2002 to 2006 its annual budget was flat in the $200-$230 million
a year range. In Fiscal-Year 2007, its budget jumped up to $378.4 million.

Solar America Cities is a partnership between the U.S. Department of Energy
(DOE) and a select group of 25 cities across the country that have committed
to accelerating the adoption of solar energy technologies at the local level.
The selected Solar America Cities have teamed up with municipal, county, and
state agencies, non-profit organizations, universities, utilities, developers,
and solar companies to accelerate the adoption of solar energy. Solar America
Cities is a key component of the federal government's Solar America Initiative
which aims make electricity from photovoltaics cost-competitive with conventional
utility grid electricity by 2015.

Begun as a collaborative effort between students and faculty members at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1969, the Union of Concerned Scientists

Launched in August 2006, the Clinton Climate Initiative aims to apply a business-oriented
approach to the fight against climate change in practical, measurable and significant
ways. In its first phase, the program is working with the C40 Large Cities Climate
Leadership Group, a group of large cities dedicated to tackling climate change,
